Welcome to the fourth episode of Woody’s Roundup, a segment here on The Reel Insider. In this segment, each Saturday I’ll put together all of the animation related news and share it with you along with my thoughts. I’m a huge fan of animation and I love sharing it here more! Let’s get started! (May 3-9, 2015)
Aardman’s Next Film Titled “Early Man”
The “Shaun of the Sheep Movie” is doing critically very well, and is yet to release in the United States. But, Aardman and StudioCanal are already at work on their next film. The film, entitled “Early Man”, is to be directed by Nick Park (of Wallace & Gromit fame) and is a caveman comedy that will trace the world’s first game of soccer. Visuals for the film are to be unveiled at the Cannes festival this year. Chief Executive of StudioCanal, Olivier Courson, said the following:
This is a very ambitious project, with a lot more characters than Shaun [of the Sheep]. The film is not about football but it is an important component. Nick and the Aardman guys will come to Cannes. This is a very ambitious project for the independent market. It’s also extremely funny.
It’s an interesting premise indeed and I could definitely see it being a good film considering Aardman’s quirky humor. Excited to see how the film turns out!
Director on the “Looney Tunes Show” is Back for “Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run”
Bugs and Lola are back in a new Looney Tunes film this August! The film, directed by Jeff Siergey (who has worked on the Looney Tunes Show, Space Jam, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action) follows Lola Bunny, who creates a highly sought after invisibility spray, joins Bugs, who in the film is a cab driver, as they seek to stay away from the many hands who want her spray. They trot the globe and meet many Looney Tunes characters on the way. A trailer for the direct to video film is below:
An interesting plot to say the least, but knowing the Looney Tunes charm, it’s bound to have some good moments.
“Monster Trucks” is Pushed to Next Year
A recent report from Deadline said that Paramount Pictures has postponed the CG/Live-Action film “Monster Trucks” to March 18, 2016. No official reason has been given, but it’s likely because of Monster Trucks’ release date being so close to the release of Star Wars VII.
Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman to be Lead Roles in “Zootopia”
Zootopia news has been scattered over the last few months, but the main characters’ actors have now been officially released! Ginnifer Goodwin is to voice Lt. Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman is to voice Nick Wilde. Personally, I think they’re great choices for the roles. Excited to see the film next March!
Comic Continuation of “Home” to Release Later This Year
Dreamworks’ “Home” released this March and Jupiter Comics is now releasing a comic book series continuing the story. The following was said regarding the comics:
Fresh from DreamWorks Animation’s new film Home, Titan Comics bring you the all-new adventures of the friendliest and most inept world dominators you’ve ever seen! The Boov are an alien race trying to make Earth their home, but they really don’t get human culture!
Honestly, it’s kinda cool that it’s being made into a comic book. Somewhat interested to see the product.
“Really Terrific Ending” for Frozen 2
Earlier this week, on an ABC News sneak peek into the extremely highly anticipated sequel to the hit Frozen, Chris Buck one of the two directors of the first film and the sequel as well, mentioned the following:
We did come up with what we think is a really terrific ending to the sequel… We had an interesting ending, and we were always sort of, ‘Let’s go toward that ending of Anna saving Elsa.’ We have our ending now, and that helps us go. We have what we call our ‘true north’.
He mentioned that much of the rest of the story is yet to be fully figured out, but having the ending is a great start to the film.
“Star Wars Rebels” Season 2 Premieres This June
Most people expected Season 2 of the Disney XD show “Star Wars Rebels” was going to premiere sometime this fall, but fans were surprised that it will actually be releasing on June 20th at 9pm EST with an episode entitled “The Siege of Lothal”.
A trailer was released for the season premiere, but (although I haven’t seen the entire season), I’ve been warned that there are spoilers from the first season, so SPOILER ALERT!
Most excitingly, at least for me, is that James Earl Jones is going to be voicing Darth Vader in the season premiere, so that’s bound to be really cool!
That concludes this week’s Woody’s Roundup. Be sure to tune in each Saturday for a collection of next week’s animation news. Feel free to share your thoughts on this news in the comments below and please like this if you enjoyed it!
